What is Dynamic Ad Insertion?

Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) refers to the technology and process used in the digital broadcasting and streaming media industries to insert advertisements into video or audio content in real-time or on-demand. This technique allows for ads to be tailored and served to individual viewers or listeners based on various criteria such as geographic location, viewing habits, device type, and demographic information. Unlike traditional advertising, which integrates commercials directly into the content at the point of production, DAI dynamically selects and inserts ads at the moment the content is requested by the user, making the advertisements more relevant and potentially more engaging.

Why is Dynamic Ad Insertion important?

The importance of DAI stems from its ability to significantly enhance ad effectiveness and revenue generation for content creators and distributors. CSAI, on the other hand, requests and inserts ads on the device itself, allowing for more dynamic interaction but with increased complexity and potential for ad blockers to interfere. The DAI process involves several key components: a content delivery network (CDN) for distributing the content, an ad server for selecting and serving ads based on predefined rules and viewer data, and a client (such as a web browser or app) that plays back the integrated content.
