What is HDTV?

HDTV, or High-Definition Television, represents a significant leap over standard-definition television (SDTV) in terms of picture quality and viewer experience. It offers resolutions that are substantially higher, with the most common formats being 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, where the letters ‘p’ and ‘i’ stand for progressive scan and interlaced scan, respectively. This enhanced resolution means that HDTV can display images with more detail and clarity, coupled with a wider aspect ratio of 16:9, which more closely matches the human field of vision compared to the 4:3 aspect ratio of SDTV.
